My review of the North American marsupial, the Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana). Previous to the Great Depression era, this nocturnal animal of the Didelphidae family was never a native to the western parts of the United States. This species was introduced purposely by those traveling from the eastern and central parts of the United States. My review considers the reasons for why this introduced species was able to adapt to the western coast of the United States, specifically southern California, and discuss the effects, if any, this species had on the ecosystem.
