This project is a fire sprinkler system cost estimate that I performed on Building 1485. I performed this estimate while working at my first internship at a fire sprinkler contractor. To estimate the cost of the system, I had to roughly lay out the sprinkler system per the bid specifications and building plans issued by the owner, and then make a determination of the complete price of the system based on material, labor, and other miscellaneous costs.
This project is very important to me as it was the first project I estimated that got awarded to our company, and it also happened to be the first job we were awarded since I started there. Throughout my time performing estimates as an intern, I gained amazing insights into not only the design and construction of fire sprinkler systems, but most importantly, the cost of each individual component, and how slight changes can impact cost in a big way. Working under my mentor, I also gained more experience working in a team, as I got the opportunity to not only do estimates myself, but also help him with the more intensive jobs that he would not have the time to do on his own.
