For this project, my team members and I worked with the Office of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Maryland to improve the process of students accessing tutoring resources on campus. The Office of Undergraduate Studies strives to engage the undergraduate community and to obtain a high level of academic excellence and professional preparedness for undergraduate students. Our project champions communicated a need for a more accessible process of students identifying tutoring resources on campus. They currently uphold the website tutoring.umd.edu which lists the various tutoring organizations and resources.
Through surveying over 50 UMD students, we identified that about 89% of the students were not aware of the tutoring.umd.edu website and many had not accessed any tutoring resources within their time at Maryland. Our team identified opportunities where the tutoring process could be improved. With our survey and interview results in mind, my team and I centered our recommendations on increasing accessibility, destigmatizing tutoring, and improving outreach. During this project, I employed and developed time management and research skills as well as gaining experience when working with clients.
